Rough sleepers and social impact artificial intelligence
Homelessness and rough sleeping in England is 120% higher than in 2010 (BBC, ‘A tent city next to Mayfair: Why cutting homelessness might be harder than before’, 9 September 2024). While there’s much discussion as to the reason for the increase, most people agree rough sleeping increases crime and anti-social behaviour while reducing the desirability of an area. As a result, organisations with assets that attract rough sleepers want to understand what they can do to alleviate the problem.
Intuitively, most people have a sense of when and where rough sleeping occurs; it’s assumed easily accessible, dry and warm locations are most popular. However, actionable intelligence demands evidence.
SIRV has developed an AI model to help asset managers understand some drivers of rough sleeping and predict the likelihood of the event.
