Security Excellence Awards 2016: SIRV wins Communication Product of the Year

SIRV shortlisted at New Civil Engineer TechFest Awards 2017

Introduction

We are proud to share that SIRV won Communication product of the year at the Security Excellence Awards in November 2016. The judges recognised a practical product that improves how security teams record, share and act on information. This post explains what was judged, why it matters, and how customers used SIRV to cut noise, increase clarity and make better decisions.

Why the judges chose SIRV

SIRV helps teams move from scattered, paper based communication to clear, structured updates that drive action. Customers valued three core capabilities working together:

These features reduce miscommunication, shorten handovers and make outcomes auditable.

What changed on the ground

By late 2016 customers were using SIRV daily across control rooms, receptions and patrol routes. Teams reported:

  • Faster handovers and fewer clarification calls

  • Clearer language and standard forms that reduce ambiguity

  • Better visibility for managers through real time dashboards

“SIRV helped us remove paper and confusion. Updates are timely and consistent, which means less chasing and better response.”

The Daily Occurrence Book, made digital

The online Daily Occurrence Book (DOB) became the central place to record what happened and why. Multiple users updated entries in real time and analytics highlighted exceptions that needed attention. The result was a calmer operation with fewer blind spots.

Built for secure communication

SIRV was engineered for enterprise use and aligned with ISO 27001 practices. All communication between the web app and mobile app used HTTPS. Server access was restricted via SSH with 2048 bit keys and database permissions followed least privilege principles. Many customers added code escrow and encrypted database backups for extra assurance.

Why communication quality matters

Security outcomes depend on what is reported, how fast it is shared and whether the next person understands what to do. SIRV standardised that flow:

  • Capture the event or observation
  • Share it to the right audience
  • Guide the next step with a decision path
  • Keep an audit trail for learning and compliance

This practical approach is what the 2016 award celebrated.
