SIRV Security Excellence Awards: Innovation of the Year 2021

We’re pleased to share that SIRV was shortlisted at the Security & Fire Excellence Awards 2021 for our automated Protest Monitoring capability, software that gives security teams timely, actionable intelligence when demonstrations form and situations change quickly.

The challenge

Protest is a healthy feature of democracy, but unannounced or fast-forming demonstrations can create real operational risk. Security teams spend hours scanning sources to anticipate disruption and protect people, assets and journeys.

The SIRV solution

Developed with a long-standing public transport client, SIRV’s Protest Monitoring service provides:

  • Real-time notifications of scheduled and unplanned protests

  • 24/7 monitoring across physical and digital open sources

  • Likelihood predictions for protest activity by location/region

  • Filtered, relevant feeds aligned to each operator’s interests

SIRV applies data science and NLP to public, open data to build a picture of protest activity across a defined geography, so teams see what matters, where it matters, in time to act.

Benefits for end users

  • Time back: free up analysts who previously trawled multiple feeds

  • Earlier awareness: advance notice for lock-down/invacuation, comms and deployment

  • Operational relevance: signal is filtered to each organisation’s footprint

  • Decision support: clearer view of likely impact on staff safety and logistics

How it reached the field

We brought the product to market with design-partners in public transport and early adopters in manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. The approach, CUDAS (Complete Updating Data Analytic System), reduces reliance on manual triage while keeping humans in the loop for validation and action.

In practice: Docklands Light Railway (DLR)

DLR (operated by KeolisAmey) manages millions of journeys across London. Before SIRV, the team manually searched for protest indicators and often missed unannounced events. With SIRV, monitoring is automated, unplanned activity is surfaced sooner, and resources can be positioned with greater confidence.

What’s next

We continue to extend data sources, regions and risk topics, and integrate protest intelligence with SIRV Maps & Visualisations and Internal Reports for end-to-end incident management.
